As some regular readers know, I founded and co-ordinate a skincare award in the UK — the Free From Skincare Awards, and the 2018 results have just been announced. All of the winners are safely MI / MCI-free, as we exclude these preservatives (along with parabens and triclosan) from the Awards entirely.
We don’t consider it a ‘beauty’ award — rather a skin health award. It’s a skincare award which we set up to reward and encourage cosmetics brands who produce cosmetics which were ‘free from’ many of the ingredients which people need to avoid for the goodness of their skin — mainly ingredients such as common allergens and SLS — but also ingredients which many want to avoid, such as petrochemical derivatives or plastic beads, as well as MI / MCI.
The overall winner was Harborist’s Balm-Gel Cleanser, which is vegan, fragrance free, essential oil-free, food allergen free and petrochemical free.
One of the most commonly sought products which brings readers to this website is shampoo, as many contain MI or both MI and MCI, so the winners of the Hair Care category may be of particular interest — Beauty Kubes Shampoo for Normal to Dry Hair, which are 27 small cubes of solid shampoo, which are simply excellent for taking away on holiday.

Love, love,love your site and your postings. However these posts leave me frustrated since I live in the U.S. and most products are not available here. It’s not your fault, just an observation. Do you have any suggestions for finding similar products here?

Ah, thank you, Celia. Sorry that this post is not right for you. Around 40% of readers are from UK, 40% from US, and 20% elsewhere, so it’s tough to always post material suitable for all, and sometimes it’s more relevant to one segment of my readership and not others. I try to keep the directories of products varied with an international mix. Is there a particular product you’re struggling to find?
