New dog care products from Green People

The unveiling of a pair of dog shampoos from British natural and organic beauty brand Green People has come as a bit of a surprise.

Previously known for their excellent, affordable, natural — and yes, MI-free — cosmetic products for women, men and children, it has been a launch they’ve managed to keep under wraps until now.

As for the products themselves, they are branded allPaws, and are a Cleansing Wild Mint Shampoo, and a Sensitive Scent Free Shampoo.

I know a number of people with allergies to isothiazolinones look for pet care products, and the Pet Care Directory on this site features not only shampoos, but conditioners and other treatment products, and not only for dogs, but other pets too. Some argue that you may not need dedicated products for animals — and that ordinary detergents for humans will do just fine — but regardless, it’s worth bearing in mind that pet care products are not classified as cosmetics, and therefore any restrictions on isothiazolinone content which apply in your area to human cosmetics will not necessarily apply to canine, feline, equine or other. More care is needed.

More interesting for me is the ‘branching out’ into new products of a brand I wouldn’t have ever marked down as one with the motivation or interest to do so.

Is this, I wonder, the way forward for broadening the numbers of MI-free products on the market? Might Green People move into household detergents and laundry products next? Might another famously natural and declared MI-free brand broaden into making paints — a move which would no doubt prove extremely popular with the many with allergies and sensitivities to domestic paints who struggle to find suitable options?

I find myself asking whether the allergy community should begin to make it more known that they would like familiar and safe brands to branch out into producing a more diverse range of products? Maybe we should tell the manufacturers ….

They used to be, but the website (www.greenpeopleus.com) appears to be dormant …. It must have happened in the last year or so.
