Our shampoos post is one of the most popular on the blog, and while there are a few fragrance free shampoos recommended in that article, here are a few others which are unscented — as well as MI / MCI free, of course — and generally more likely to be suitable to those with allergy or other cosmetic sensitivities.
Desert Essence Unscented Shampoo (Worldwide)
The DE website is a little vague on ingredients avoided by the brand, but they are MI-free, as well as vegetarian.
Dolphin Organics Fragrance Free Baby Shampoo and Body Wash (US)
Good option for kids. Brand is free from artificial ingredients and preservatives.
Earthview Fragrance Free Shampoo and Bodywash (US)
Good unscented option from a small brand whose cosmetics — and household products — are all produced with sensitivities and allergies in mind.
Ecostore Ultra Sensitive Shampoo (Aus) / Ecostore Ultra Sensitive Shampoo (NZ)
Probably the best ‘down under’ options, free from synthetic colour, parabens, SLS, artificial perfumes, gluten, nuts / seeds, animal ingredients, silicones or isothiazolinones.
Faith in Nature Fragrance Free Shampoo
One of the more affordable natural brands offer this nicely foaming fragrance free shampoo, which does use a sulphate, but ammonium, rather than sodium, which is considered gentler. Good reports for sensitive scalps. You can also buy it direct from the Faith in Nature UK website.
Free and Clear Shampoo (Worldwide)
Not only fragrance free, but free from lanolin, parabens, formaldehyde, sulphates, phosphates, gluten, proteins and of course MCI / MI — as well as other preservatives. Especially good for sensitive scalps and all sensitivities.
Handmade Naturals Herbal Sensitive Shampoo (UK)
Formulated with the mildest detergent, coco glucoside (from corn, coconut) and free from SLS/SLES, colours, preservatives and essential oils. Infused with chamomile, calendula, sage and rosemary.
John Masters Bare Unscented Shampoo (UK)
Contains hyaluronic acid, as well as jojoba oil, chamomile and evening primrose. Free from SLS. Contains soy.
Nature Clean Pure Sensitive Shampoo (Canada)
Free of sulphates, PEGs, dyes, fragrances and parabens. Described as hypoallergenic. Vegan, gluten-free. Very straightforward formulation, preserved with sodium benzoate and phenoxyethanol.
Nurture My Body Everyday Shampoo (US)
Gentle cleanser which is SLS-free. Also have a similar fragrance free baby shampoo and body wash.
Philip Adam Unscented Apple Cider Vinegar Shampoo (Canada)
Recommended by a reader, this product we were told doesn’t leave hair greasy and is very easy to rinse out. Free from wheat, parabens, and SLS, and is vegan. Gentle cleansing agents.
Seaweed Bath Company Unscented Argan Shampoo (Worldwide)
Brand is free from glycol solvents, parabens, phthalates, formaldehyde, artificial colorants, phosphates, gluten or petroleum distillates. This product contains a silicone (amodimethicone).
Shea Butter Cottage’s Cioccolatina Serwaa Clay Shampoo (UK)
Some lovely ingredients here — including shea butter, cocoa butter, rhassoul clay, argan oil, bentonite, marshmallow, hibiscus and burdock. Free from all sulphates, cocamidopropyl betaine and cocamide DEA.
