I’m delighted to announce the release of the second, expanded and fully updated edition of Living with Methylisothiazolinone Allergy.
The second edition is over 20 pages longer than the first (which was published all the way back in 2018), and it brings the book up to date as we move into 2026, incorporating new research, for instance on the prevalence of allergies and other medical studies, and recent market and consumer developments which impact those living with the condition.
Here’s a rundown of some of the other added content:
- A new section on ROATs (repeat open application tests), as well as extra information on fragrances and fragrance allergies, and on hair dyes too;
- Updates on legislation changes and labelling law developments — across cosmetics, household detergents and paints — as well as some changes and improvements with regard to the sections on patch testing, possible new medical treatments, and how the cosmetic industry is adapting to the contact allergy problem.
- Expanded Resources and Glossary chapters, including extra professional and consumer organisations, more useful databases, and additional synonyms / alternative names for the isothiazolinones which you may now come across.
- And some small improvements to a multitude of other sections, including on certification schemes, children’s care, and more.
I can’t pretend I didn’t correct a few typos and editorial inconsistencies too, so thank you to those readers who alerted me to a couple. Hopefully, the book is a lot more reader-friendly and exhaustive than it was before.
If you’ve been thinking about buying a copy, I hope you do, and that you find the book useful — I would welcome your feedback. And if you’ve had a copy for some years I hope you consider this ‘upgrade’ a sound investment, and that there is a lot in the new version to make it worth it.
It’s available across Amazon sites worldwide in both paperback and eBook/Kindle formats.
If you’re in the UK and want to buy the paperback directly from me (£10), please email (info at [domain name])

Thank you for your support!
Audiobook
Would anyone like to see LwMI as an audiobook? I’d be very happy to put out a version for Audible, but it’d be encouraging to know beforehand if there was a market for it. If enough of you request it, I’ll put in the hours! Let me know.
Hardback
Same question. Hardbacks are almost twice as expensive as paperbacks, but I know that some people — medical professionals or librarians, for example — may like a hardback copy, as it can be useful in a setting where it is consulted by many and acts more as a reference to multiple readers. Again, let me know.
